smart-cities-in-the-usDo you want to know the smartest cities in the US? Lumosity “tells” you.

Lumosity (also known as Lumos Labs) is an online brain training and neuroscience research company (based in San Francisco, California) which was founded in 2005 by Kunal Sarkar, Michael Scanlon and David Drescher. Lumosity.com was launched in 2007 and as of April 2013, has 40 million members. Lumosity offers a brain training program consisting of nearly 40 games in the areas of memory, attention, flexibility, processing speed, and problem solving.

Last year(2012), Lumosity published its first Smartest Cities rankings based on its  database of users’ performance on cognitive training exercises. It’s 2012 rankings measured the cognitive performance of over a million people around the US.

The 2013 rankings, which was released last 2 months (June 25. 2013) are based on data from nearly three times as many people with over 3 million users included in the study. It measured the  performance across five cognitive areas: memory, processing speed, flexibility, attention, and problem solving of people in the U.S. between the ages of 18 and 75 who had played several Lumosity brain-training games. Lumosity data scientist Daniel Sternberg said in a statement. “Neuroscience research has found that those who are engaged in learning and cognitively stimulating activities throughout the lifetime build up a ‘cognitive reserve’ that helps maintain and improve cognitive performance.”

One of the most concerning conclusions from this survey is that most of the top metro areas contain major research universities, suggesting that education is an important predictor of cognitive performance,”
