4 Best Ways To Quickly Make A Few Bucks From Your Dorm Room

3 minutes read

There are people who are lucky enough to come from families that can afford to send them to college and still support them financially while they are studying. For most however, college is a time of tightening the belt and being careful about every dime.

The good news is that new technologies are changing the game (especially the internet), and there are now quite a few ways in which college students can make some money without even leaving their dorm room.

Things to Look For

Before we get into individual ideas for making a quick buck from the comfort of your dorm room, we should try and figure out the requirements that such money-making opportunities should meet. For instance, this cannot be anything full-time as you do not have the time to spend 8 hours every day working if you wish to finish college. It also has to be something that does not require a degree or any particular experience because in college, you lack both. It should also be something you can pick up when you feel like it and leave it if you do not have the time.

So, now that we have worked out what these jobs should be like, let’s take a closer look at some of the options.

Do Some Freelance Work

More than ever before, the world is looking for freelancers. Maybe you have a knack for writing? There are plenty of marketing and copywriting agencies that will be glad to take on a young writer, if they have the chops, of course. The same goes for web design, illustration and video work. Everyone wants to put out content and not many people are actually talented enough to do it. If you have the talent and the will to do some serious work in quick bursts, then this can be a great way to earn some money. Often times, this will be more than decent money.

Give Tutoring a Chance

You are probably thinking that you are in college to learn and not to teach. To a certain degree, you are perfectly right in thinking this way. However, this does not mean you shouldn’t give some classes to your less advanced peers or to high school kids. With Skype and other communication software, you can now give classes to kids half the country away. If you do not know where to start, there are quite a few websites out there that help put tutors in touch with people who need them.

Do a Paid Survey or Two

We need to get one thing out of the way right away — you will not make a fortune with paid surveys. You will be able to earn a few bob here and there, but doing paid surveys is not exactly a career. The good news is that they are easy to do and you can do them almost while you are doing something else. Another great thing is that there are paid surveys companies that do regular prize draws where the luckiest survey takers can earn some serious prizes.

Test Websites and Apps

Before websites and mobile apps are released into the masses, they need to be tested. Companies do not wish to come off silly and unprofessional and they need testers. Due to the increased number of websites and apps that need to be tested, there are now websites where you can apply to become a tester and earn money doing it. These websites offer the perfect ration of time invested and money made.

These are just a few ideas that fit the requirements we identified beforehand. You can probably come up with a few more ideas. The important thing is to have some money coming in.
