Quick Notes

  • The SAT Mathematics Level 1 Subject Test is offered in Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, May and June.
  • Calculator use is permitted. Check for acceptable calculators here.
  • At least 3 years of college-preparatory mathematics, including 2 years of algebra and 1 year of geometry is recommended.
  • You can take Mathematics Level 2 Subject Test if you’ve covered all the requirements for Mathematics Level 1, plus elementary functions (pre-calculus) or trigonometry or both.
  • You do not need to answer every question to get a perfect score.

About the SAT Mathematics Level 1 Test

The SAT Mathematics Level 1 Subject Test is a 60 minute exam with 50 questions. It measures the knowledge you’ve gained from 3 years of college-preparatory mathematics, including 2 years of algebra and 1 year of geometry.

The SAT Mathematics Level 1 test is meant for those interested in majoring in engineering, or science related subjects.

Taking the SAT Mathematics Level 1 test would help showcase your interest, and ability in that subject, hence could give you an advantage over other applicants in the application pool. It could also give you an opportunity to earn college credits.
You should know whether the university you want to apply to recommends or requires undergraduate applicants to take the SAT Subject Test .
